This past week, current Ph. D. candidates Dinidu Perera and Avishi Abeywickrama traveled to Chicago, Il to attend the 2022 APS meeting. Avishi's presentation was titled, “Long-Range Hydrophobic Attraction Between Graphene and Oil–Water Interfaces” and was in the Defect Engineering and Interfacial Effects in 2D Materials session. The couple's second talk was in the Biological and Charged Polymers session; delivered by Dinidu and was titled, “Preparation of Natural Spider Silk Nanofibrils by Assembling Molecules or Disassembling Fibers.”
This was the research group's first time attending the APS meeting since 2018. They were able to discuss the intricacies of hydrophobic forces and spider silk nanostructure with their academic peers. APS also featured many exhibitors that are striving to realize quantum computing!
